WiseOceans Academy
One of the reasons our Marine Biology Club is so special is that it is taught by real life marine biologists! As well as all their knowledge and expertise about ocean habitats and animals, they are also full of stories and experiences they have had that add depth to our lessons. Learn a little bit more about our Marine Educators below!
Hannah
Hannah grew up in Wales and always wanted to be a marine biologist! Hannah has spent over a decade working in marine conservation worldwide, teaching people of all ages about life under the sea, both in, and out, of the water. After training as a Divemaster on the Great Barrier Reef and obtaining a degree in Marine Vertebrate Zoology, Hannah began her career surveying whales, dolphins and porpoises at Sea Trust. She then went on to work on marine education programmes in the Indian Ocean, where she spent her time on coral restoration projects, manta ray monitoring research and guiding snorkelling trips.
Martha
Martha grew up on the south coast of the UK, spending a lot of time in the ocean growing up. As part of her undergraduate degree Martha travelled to Borneo and became SCUBA certified, sparking her interest in a career in Marine Biology. After she obtained a master’s degree and divemaster qualification she worked in Northern Cyprus surveying sharks and rays from a fishing boat and collecting data on green and loggerhead turtles on their nesting beaches. She has extensive experience teaching, obtained from time spent in Hong Kong working in an international school.

Liane
Liane grew up in the UK, and from childhood always loved the ocean – her childhood bedroom was decorated with lots of fish and dolphins! She has worked around the world monitoring sea turtles and has also spent time in Seychelles working on a coral restoration project with WiseOceans. Whilst in Seychelles she also helped with a lemon shark research project, mangrove restoration, and worked with many other species. She loves diving and snorkelling, and you can find her giving affectionate nicknames to all the reef fish whilst she is working. Liane has also taught English at schools in China and Malawi, and English and conservation to children in Thailand.

Come and join Hannah, Martha and Liane as they explore ocean habitats and learn more about marine animals every week!
