A WiseOceans Discovery Marine Discovery Programme is a bespoke initiative designed to immerse individuals in the wonders of marine and coastal environments. Through tailored activities, scientific research, and community outreach, these programmes aim to educate, engage, and inspire people to value and protect the oceans.

WiseOceans (Discovery) has been at the forefront of developing such programmes in collaboration with luxury resorts worldwide since 2012. As of 2025, we have developed six programmes, and are currently located in Seychelles, Bora Bora, and Vietnam. We are due to launch in a further country soon!

Seychelles: Preserving a Tropical Marine Heaven

Seychelles is home to some of the most pristine coral reefs and marine biodiversity hotspots. This location is where WiseOceans Discovery began, with our first programme launched in conjunction with Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, in 2012. It remains our longest-standing partnership.

In 2025, Seychelles, and more specifically the islands of Mahé and Ste Anne, are where four of our six MDPs are located. In addition to Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, we are partnered with Club Med Seychelles (2022), Kempinski Seychelles Resort (2024), and Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas (2025).

Whilst all programmes are bespoke, our core structure and aims remain identical. Therefore, all programmes include tailored guest activities for resort guests and staff, contribution to key science and conservation initiatives e.g., coral reef restoration, and a commitment to community outreach and education.

In addition, we operate a local NGO in Seychelles (WiseOceans Seychelles), which delivers successful successful projects such as The Marine Scholarship Programme. This programme was for young Seychellois to acquire skills in marine biology, contributing to training the next generations of local ocean experts and to provide employment opportunities.

French Polynesia: A Paradise for Marine Conservation

The crystal-clear waters of French Polynesia host some of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in the world, and is recognised worldwide as an underwater paradise. Our Marine Discovery Programme was established in 2020, on the stunning island of Bora Bora, in partnership with Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. This successful programme has gone from strength to strength, developing in three years to a team of three full-time Marine Biologists and Educators.

In addition to the core components of a WiseOceans Marine Discovery Programme, such as those described above, this programme’s associated coral reef restoration project utilises microfragmentation of corals. Furthermore, working alongside local researches and organisations, we are monitoring manta ray populations.

Vietnam: Conservation in a Rapidly Changing Environment

Vietnam’s coastline features diverse marine ecosystems that are increasingly under pressure from human activities.

WiseOceans partnered with Four Seasons Resort, the Nam Hai, Hoi An in Vietnam in November 2024, with the official launch of the Marine Discovery Programme in February 2025. It is therefore our newest programme and will keep developing into new areas as we approach 2026.

This tailored project is more broadly developed as a Nature Discovery Project as it is not solely centred on marine biology and incorporates a greater variety of land-based activities. The first part of our launch is focused on offering to resort’s guests a variety of activities to discover more about Vietnam’s endemic species and conservation issues, offering discovery opportunities to both adults and children. Our actions there are dedicated to increasing the resort’s sustainability initiatives and sharing knowledge about them, as well as addressing location-specific topics such as awareness and mitigation of plastic pollution.

We are currently working on expanding the science and community aspect of this programme and aim to launch both soon. This will include a Coral Reef Restoration Project, in partnership with the Cham Islands Marine Park Authorities, which will contribute to increasing restoration efforts and diversifying methods in this Marine Protected area, and a local community engagement project, in partnership with local schools and learning centres, to conduct workshops on marine discovery and awareness.

In Conclusion

Through the establishment of Marine Discovery Programmes, WiseOceans addresses many key conservation challenges faced throughout the world. Stay tuned for more development announcement in 2025 as we expand our services to new locations, continuing our essential work of raising awareness and preserving the marine ecosystems worldwide!
