Fantine Soulat

In April 2024, WiseOceans launched a new Marine Discovery Programme at Kempinski Seychelles Resort.

This year, we celebrate the first-year anniversary of this partnership, and the amazing start we had in 2025!

WiseOceans Discovery

WiseOceans’ Marine Discovery Programmes aim to educate, engage and inspire people to protect and love the Ocean, through Marine Education and Conservation. Fantine, our Marine Biologist at Kempinski Seychelles Resort, joined the team in December 2024 and is responsible for leading and developing this programme.

Our Joint Programme

Throughout the week, guests at the resort can benefit from the presence of our Marine Biologist at the Marine Discovery Centre to learn more about the marine life of Seychelles and to participate to various engaging activities. Weekly activities include guided snorkelling, marine life presentations, beach discovery walks and tortoise feeding, as well as a range of private excursions, from private snorkelling, snorkelling lessons, and boat snorkelling excursions. Guests also have the chance to get involved in our Coral Restoration Project, by taking part in coral workshops, getting hands-on experience with coral fragments, and even adopting their own coral.

Marine Biologist and Educator Fantine on a Guided Snorkel

During this first year, we developed a Reef Restoration Project in Baie Lazare, aiming to recover a healthy reef ecosystem. So far, we installed two coral nurseries, as well as ten star frames, rescuing a total of 270 corals. Star frames should help stabilize the rubble on the seafloor while creating a reef structure for corals to grow on. The coral nurseries act as an intermediate stage for rescued fragments to grow, until they are large enough to be transplanted on the reef. As the first fragments are now ready, we will outplant them onto the reef during the first week of April, to mark our first-year anniversary in Baie Lazare.

Other seasonal conservation responsibilities include turtle nest monitoring, beach profiling, and coral bleaching monitoring.

Anniversary Celebrations

During the first week of April, a photo exhibition will be displayed at the Marine Discovery Centre, to honour the marine life of the Seychelles and WiseOceans’ work at KSR. Moreover, to celebrate WiseOceans and KSR anniversary, a special cocktail “One Year, One Ocean” will be offered at the Kalou bar throughout the month of April, including in its price a donation to support our conservation work. We hope these exclusive events will boost awareness about the importance of safeguarding our precious marine environment.
