Who are WiseOceans?
WiseOceans Academy has been delivering marine education across the world, both virtually and in person, for over thirteen years. We have reached over 11,000 students and teachers in 37 countries!
Our lessons are delivered by expert marine biologists who are also experienced educators. Lessons engage, educate, and inspire. They focus on the wonder of our oceans and the positive steps we can all take to help them. Our Marine Biology Club is aimed at children between 7 and 12 years old and delivered virtually, so no matter where you are in the world if you have an internet connection you can join!
What do the Sessions Include?
After welcoming the learners into the classroom our educators will introduce themselves to any new students, before explaining the rules of the classroom. As with in-person classes, students must raise their hand if they would like to ask or answer a question.
Each class begins with a quick summary of what we are going to be learning about that day. Our educators give the opportunity for students to share if they have ever seen the species or habitat we are talking about, in real life, on TV or at an aquarium, or if they have any facts or stories about the topic they want to share with the class!
We then look at the anatomy, behaviour, and diet of a range of species, the various aspects of a habitat or the threats some species may be facing and how we can help. These sessions include lots of pictures and videos. Teachers will share our first-hand experiences of interactions with some of these creatures, bringing to life each topic.
At the end of each session there is a short pop quiz to help solidify what the class has learnt in the lesson!
Which Session is for Me?
Here at WiseOceans we offer a range of sessions to cater to lots of different learners and education environments. We offer public sessions, which are delivered four times per week, at set times, and can have up to 9 children. We offer private sessions, perfect for 1-1 or small group tutoring, or even birthdays! We also offer school sessions, suitable for home education groups or public and private schools, during which we can work with you to meet certain criteria.
