About the organisation

The conference is being hosted by Blue Resources Trust, a Sri Lankan non-profit organisation whose Fisheries and Policy Programme focuses on the research and conservation of sharks, rays, and chimaeras.

About the course/event

Sharks International, the world’s largest conference dedicated to the science and conservation of sharks, rays, and chimaeras (chondrichthyans), is held every four years. The upcoming edition, its first in Asia, will welcome 600-800 global researchers, scientists, students, conservationists, managers, policymakers, and funders, providing a unique platform to share cutting-edge research, foster collaborations, and inspire collective action for shark and ray conservation globally

The conference will feature keynote lectures, science and policy sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and poster presentations, covering a wide range of topics, including ecology, fisheries management, policy, trade, and emerging technologies.

An interest or active involvement in shark, ray, chimaera, or marine conservation research, management, or policy

Price

A tiered registration fee structure (ranging from USD 50 upwards) is available to make participation accessible, with special discounted rates for students and delegates from low-income countries (for more details, visit: https://si2026.org/participate/registration-rate). Fees include access to all scientific sessions, keynote lectures, side events, poster sessions, and opportunities to attend workshops and other social activities. It also includes a welcome reception, daily lunches, and tea breaks.

Dates

4–8 May 2026, with optional workshops scheduled on the weekends before and after the conference (2–3 and 9–10 May 2026). Daily schedule approximately 08:30–17:00, with evening poster sessions and social/networking events.
